Okay, I know it’s not actually Summer yet, but in my eyes (and the thermostat’s) it’s definitely here! Although Summer is already turning out to be a hot one, I can’t wait for everything this season has in store! From the days by the pool to all the travelling in store, I like to keep my outfits simple and breezy. If the phrase easy, breezy, lemon-squeezy can’t be applied to my outfit, then I ain’t wearin it!
Y’all know I am totally a pants over skirts or dresses kinda gal, but during the summer, I can’t bear to wear pants, and to be honest, I’m not the hugest fan of shorts either. Why do I always end up with a super uncomfortable wedgie tho?! #realtalk So the Summer always has me leaning towards more feminine cuts and girly colors, and I wanted to share my absolute favorite Summer item that is a closet must-have for me when this season rolls around every year… a vintage dress!
Why is a vintage dress a Summer must-have? They essentially never go out of style, and a totally unique item to add to your closet. As a fashion blogger, I’m always looking for investment items, in addition to trendy pieces that I know will go out of style by next Summer, so that I’m not endlessly buying new clothes (or at least trying not to!).
I fell in love with this 70s print dress nearly two Summers ago at one of my favorite vintage stores in Savannah, GA, Civvies on Broughton. Every year, I get so much joy bringing it out again for its’ Summer debut, just like I did the Summer before. For this reason, a vintage dress is a staple in my closet every Summer, and I can’t tell you how many compliments I’ve received on this dress time after time!
When picking out a vintage dress, I always look for a few criteria: a great cut, comfort, a color/print that’s compatible with my skin and style, and most importantly, a how does the dress make me feel? This fit and flair dress hugs tight in all the right places, and has a full skirt (perfect for all your twirling needs), and allows for lots of air flow making it super comfortable. Putting on this dress just makes me feel good, and that’s how it should be! I love the way I look in it, and the tiny floral pattern is a favorite.
A vintage dress is my closet essential because it compliments my trendier pieces, and it’s a unique item I look forward to wearing every year. Some of my favorite online shops for vintage dresses are: Modcloth (vintage inspired), Etsy (I’ve linked a few of my fav finds below!), and local thrift stores! Next time you’re on the hunt for your next Summer item to add to your closet, shop for a vintage dress, and enjoy it for Summers to come!
