Y2K is BACK!

Y2K – the decade of jelly bracelets, the lowest of low rise denim, Juicy track suits, and let’s not forget about the infamous Britney and Justin all denim looks at the 2001 American Music Awards. Although I was wearing mostly my sister’s 90s hand me downs during the 2000s, I can remember falling in love with the fashion that this sparkly decade had to offer. It’s pretty surreal when I’m at the thrift store, and see fashions that I remember from my childhood; a slap in the face that I’m not old, but old enough. And just like all vintage clothing, every decade will get its’ shining moment to make its’ big come back. As a fashion lover first, and thrifter second, this is key! I LIVE for those come backs. I’d go as far to say that 99% of “new” fashion trends are not authentic in that it’s all been done before. The beauty in this, is that everyone gets to make it their own! Fashions repeat, and that’s my cue to collect inspiration from current trends, and find similar and trend inspired pieces second hand.

Y2K is currently one of the decades back for fashion redemption a.k.a. “trending”, and I couldn’t be happier! After years of passing up on 2000’s fashions that I was secretly eagerly waiting to reappear in runways and magazines, it’s finally happening. And it all came back in this look, y’all! After thrifting each piece months to years apart, everything came together harmoniously in this Y2K inspired outfit. When I woke up that morning I never planned on photographing my outfit, or given much thought to what I would wear that day. It was finally the weekend, and I was feeling like I wanted to wear something fun, happy, and hella funky. I’m one of those people who can’t pick outfits out the night before because I like to get dressed based on how I’m feeling on that particular day. After putting this outfit together, it really felt like a direct reflection of how I felt that day! And I had so much fun in the process of getting my inspiration, thrifting each item, and putting together the final look. Y2K is back baby!
